I took a drive to Warren County, New Jersey, to visit the real-life Camp Crystal Lake and several other filming locations from the original 1980 Friday the 13th film. My first stop was a late lunch at the Blairstown Diner, which appears in the scene where Steve Christy is eating dinner. The diner fully embraces its connection to the film, with Friday the 13th memorabilia throughout, themed menu items, movie-inspired décor, and plenty of souvenirs for sale. It can get pretty crowded, so be prepared to wait for a table. I tried the Summer Camp Burger, which was branded with Jason's face.
After lunch, I headed to Camp Crystal Lake for a tour. The movie was filmed at a real summer camp called Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, which is still in operation today. In addition to hosting campers, the site also offers Friday the 13th tours. I purchased my tickets at nobebosco.org. Several tour options are available, including an evening tour that includes a screening of the film. I chose the afternoon Extended Tour, which takes you through all of the key areas used during filming. Each ticket includes a lanyard, commemorative ticket, Camp Crystal Lake bumper sticker, and a map of other filming locations in the surrounding area. After the tour, you can take photos with props from the film and browse the gift shop.
My final stop was Hope, New Jersey, where I visited Hope Moravian Cemetery—the location where Annie is dropped off on her way to the lake. I also stopped by Hope Junction Antiques, which appears in another early scene from the film.
If you're a Friday the 13th fan—or simply a horror movie fan—this is the ultimate day trip.
