Did you know you could visit the planet Hoth in real life? Finse, Norway was the filming location for the planet Hoth in Star Wars Episode V.
Finse is a mountainous region in Norway that can only be accessed by train. It is an extremely remote area and does really feel like you could be on another planet. There is a hotel located there called, Finse 1222 which was actually where the filming crew stayed while filming the movie. They have some photos in the lobby of the film crew.
You can reach Finse by taking the Bergen Railway to Finse Station, which is exactly how I got there. I caught the train in Oslo and took the train all the way to Bergen for an overnight stay. The Bergen railway is such a beautiful train journey that I would highly recommend doing. On the way back the following day we took the train from Bergen to Finse (which is about halfway through the train journey from Bergen to Oslo). We were visting in the middle of May and Finse was still covered in snow. We didnt have much planned just wanted to explore but realized getting around by foot would not be easy. We were able to rent snowshoes from hotel Finse 1222 which made getting around much easier. After our exploration we returned our snow shoes and waited for the next train back to Oslo.
